Assignment 15: Interviews


Interview Questions

-How did you get involved with Out of Darkness? Jenny: “Nightlight Atlanta, an informal group that partnered with local organizations.”

Dave: “Passion conference.”

I love that people are talking about this issue and making ways for people to get involv!

-How long have you been volunteering with Out of Darkness? Jenny: “1 year.”

Dave: “4 years.”

Dave is older than Jenny so natural has been with OOD longer.

-How long have you been active in ministry type work, if involved before OOD? Jenny: “2 and half years.”

Dave: “20 years.”

Again, Dave is older and more experienced.

-What kinds of experiences have you been exposed to? Jenny: “Scenes in strip clubs, interacting with the cliental, valet, bouncers at clubs. I have been exposed prostitution and what life is like on the streets. I have also been trained in the restoration, reach, prevention processes.”

Dave: “Working with survivors, getting to know what they go through…they are not your typical victim of violence.”

This ministry deals with very dark topics and you have to be careful and protect your heart by being strong in your faith.

-Was there one experience that stuck out to you? Jenny: “Girl at on the clubs I saw each month. I developed a relationship with her, she often asked for prayer for her children and her kid’s father.”

Dave: “Meeting Melissa, a girl from my own community who was trafficked.”

These experiences are very personal and unique, you have to view them as a blessing from God.

-How have those experiences changed your personal views?

Jenny: “I learned to see people without judgement. EVERYONE HAS A STORY.”

Dave: “Realizing the fact that this is the only issue that happens in every community everywhere made me more.”

After witnessing

the things you do in this ministry your perspective can never truly be the same. Your heart and mind are more open to humanity and you are more sensitive to individuals you interact with on a daily.

-How long do you see yourself continuing in this work? Jenny: “For a while, context may change, loving people will continue. I will always have a heart for it.”

Dave: “No end in sight.”

Once you are aware of this issue you can never turn a blind eye to it. You will always feel the need to make others aware and help as many people as possible.

-Do you have a goals for yourself in the ministry? Jenny: “To gain a heart more like Jesus, to see and to love like Him and to humble me."

Dave: “My main goal right now is to make Rottery’s next project human trafficking.”

Personal goals are important, however my focus is usually on who I am serving.

-If you could change or add to OOD, what would you do? Jenny: “To get awareness into high schools. Maybe have a porn education get into schools first.”

Dave: “A better way to communicate our mission between clubs and schools.”

I am currently making an effort to bring education on this issue to my own high school.

-How could you encourage other people to be apart of this ministry? Jenny: “Research, find local organizations, books, educations yourself.”

Dave: “Telling a testimony.”

Personal testimony’s will always be a very string message that speak straight to the heart
