Interview with Abolitionists in the Community

-How did you get involved with Out of Darkness?
Jenny: “Nightlight Atlanta, an informal group that partnered with local organizations.”
Dave: “Passion conference.”
​
-How long have you been volunteering with Out of Darkness?
Jenny: “1 year.”
Dave: “4 years.”
-How long have you been active in ministry type work, if involved before OOD?
Jenny: “2 and half years.”
Dave: “20 years.”
-What kinds of experiences have you been exposed to?
Jenny: “Scenes in strip clubs, interacting with the cliental, valet, bouncers at clubs. I have been exposed to prostitution and what life is like on the streets. I have also been trained in the restoration, reach, prevention processes.”
Dave: “Working with survivors, getting to know what they go through…they are not your typical victim of violence.”
-Was there one experience that stuck out to you?
Jenny: “Girl at one of the clubs I saw each month. I developed a relationship with her, she often asked for prayer for her children and her kid’s father.”
Dave: “Meeting Melissa, a girl from my own community who was trafficked.”

-How have those experiences changed your personal views?
Jenny: “I learned to see people without judgement. EVERYONE HAS A STORY.”
Dave: “Realizing the fact that this is the only issue that happens in every community everywhere made me more inclined to make everyone possible aware.”

-How long do you see yourself continuing in this work?
Jenny: “For a while, context may change, loving people will continue. I will always have a heart for it.”
Dave: “No end in sight.”

-Do you have a goals for yourself in the ministry?
Jenny: “To gain a heart more like Jesus, to see and to love like Him and to humble me."
Dave: “My main goal right now is to make Rotary’s next project human trafficking.”

-If you could change or add to OOD, what would you do?
Jenny: “To get awareness into high schools. Maybe have a porn education get into schools first.”
Dave: “A better way to communicate our mission between clubs and schools.”

-How could you encourage other people to be apart of this ministry?
Jenny: “Research, find local organizations, books, educate yourself.”
Dave: “Telling a testimony.”
